Mauritius Racing Season Delayed

Things get underway on 23 April

Bad weather and heavy rains in recent weeks have led to the postponement of the opening of the 2022 Mauritius racing season by a fortnight.

At the request of local trainers, the start of the 2022 racing season, initially scheduled for Saturday 9 April,  has been postponed to Saturday 23 April, according to a press release from the Horse Racing Division (HRD) issued on Friday 18 March.

This decision was taken during an HRD-trainers meeting, held earlier in the day.

The HRD has reviewed the dates of the different days of the new season, and is awaiting the approval of the Commissioner of Police to formalize the new proposed schedule.

Trainers argued that this request was made because of the delay in the preparation of the horses, the fault being the bad weather and the heavy rains of recent weeks.
