Fashing Shines At Kenilworth

Speed Machine collects his third win

Descendants of former South African Broodmare Of The Year, Fashing (Dancing Champ), made their mark at Kenilworth on Saturday afternoon.

Fashing’s granddaughter, Gimme Dat (Gimmethegreenlight), stamped herself a filly to follow when making a winning debut, while 2020 Sophomore Sprint winner, Speed Machine (Legislate), whose third dam is Fashing, collected his third win in Saturday’s seventh race.

Promising two-year-old, Gimme Dat, a full-sister to Drum Star Handicap winner, Green Haze, is out of the dual winning Western Winter mare, Mizzen Mist.

The latter, a full-sister to Fashing’s greatest son, Yard-Arm, won twice up to 2000m, and also ranks as the dam of dual winner, Broadside (Soft Falling Rain). Speed Machine’s dam, Tamora, a three-parts sister to both Yard-Arm and the aforementioned Mizzen Mist, won once over 1800m.

Fashing, a 3 time winner over 1600m, was South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year in 2003-2004.

The mare left behind 10 winners, with her 3 black type winners headed by South African Horse Of The Year, and five time Gr1 winner, Yard-Arm (Western Winter).

Fashing’s daughters have also made their mark at stud, with her Gr3 Azalea Handicap winning daughter, Donya, dam of SA Triple Crown winner, Abashiri (Go Deputy) and Jebel Ali Sprint winner, Drift Ice (Western Winter). Another daughter, Donya’s five time winning stakes placed own sister, Camara, produced Gr3 winner, Current Event, and yet another daughter, Eris, produced the dam of Racing Association Stakes winner, Just Chaos (Just As Well) in the form of Discorida (Western Winter).

The list of races won by Fashing’s descendants is an impressive one, with the star producer’s progeny having won all of the Gr1 Queen’s Plate, Gr1J&B Met, Gr1 SA Derby (twice), Gr1 SA Classic, Gr1 Gold Challenge, Gr1 Skeaping Trophy, Gr2 Gauteng Guineas, Gr2 Al Fahidi Fort, Maiden Cup, Drum Star Handicap and Sea Cottage Stakes.

Fashing’s Rakeen daughter, Kali Mist, is granddam of smart galloper, Before Noon (Await The Dawn), who was second in the Gr3 DStv Gold Vase of 2020.

A daughter of top-class broodmare sire, Dancing Champ, Fashing was out of the winning Beau Charles mare, Fast Pace, who also ranked as the dam of Gr1 SA Derby runner up, Diagonal Street, and the Gr3 placed Kalapace.
