In this crazy age of fake news and rumour mongering, the Mauritius Turf Club have warned that fake fixtures are currently being circulated.
The ‘fixtures’ for the first 5 days of the 2020 season, similar to the model usually used by the MTC, are currently in circulation on social networks, according to the Indian Ocean island’s racing authority.
The MTC has advised the public that the only fixtures to be taken into consideration are those that will be published on its website when the time comes.
A gradual resumption of certain activities was implemented in Mauritius last week, which will be added to essential sectors such as banks and supermarkets, which are still operating despite the containment.
Even though religious, political and union gatherings are suspended, bakeries, barbers, butchers and fishmongers opened again on 15 May. Markets, bars and shopping centres will remain closed until 1 June, while schools resume on 1 August.
One of the island’s premier attractions, the beaches are also closed, while a maximum of 10 people can attend weddings and funerals.
It will be good news that the training session on Friday morning will be marked by the return of barrier trials.
Five trials will be held and there are some familiar names for SA racing fans on the list.
The MTC says that of the 19 participants expected, only The Gray Crusader and Mr Hardy are wearing alumites and that Mr Bombastic will do his schooling in the starting stalls.
