Failed To Ride To Line – Wright Gets 14 Days

Given the Right of Appeal against finding and penalty

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday 29 February 2024, Jockey Gareth Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.

The particulars being that he failed to ride Grandiosa out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining fourth place in Race 7, at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 17 February 2024.

Jockey Wright pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating factors as well as Jockey Wright’s riding record, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of fourteen (14) days.

Jockey Wright was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
