Etzebeth’s A Bok, Alright!

A young Etzebeth!

How well is this fellow named! Carolyn Erasmus of Varsfontein sent us a pic of Erik The Red’s two week old colt out of Equus champion Bela-Bela.

“Bela’s first three foals were all Gimmethegreenlight fillies so we are ecstatic that she has produced her first colt! He has been fondly nick-named ‘Etzebeth’ after the rugby player due to his strength and size,” added Carolyn.

Equus Champion Bela-Bela, a daughter of one of the greatest mares in the South African stud book in Mystic Spring, the Equus Champion Broodmare of the Year in 2016/17.

A beautiful grey flyer, Bela-Bela certainly lived up to her pedigree as a racehorse and was voted Equus Champion 3YO Filly in 2015/16 with 7 wins (including 3 Gr1’s) and R2 636 875 in stakes earned under the Snaith Racing banner.

The Cheveley bred grey flyer was purchased by Varsfontein Stud – in whose silks she raced with distinction – at the BSA National 2yo Sale for R1,4 million.

Breeders are reminded to please send us foal pics for publication. All we require is date of birth, breeding, sex and any family connections/ back stories. They can be emailed to [email protected]
