Watching the horses gallop is like having a peek at the answer sheet prior to an examination, suggests trainer Dean Kannemeyer, who is again a guest on the esteemed judging panel for the Emperors Palace Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale gallops which will be held from 11h00 today at the Randjesfontein training centre.

Kannemeyer has served on the panel for many years and feels that there is no such thing as information overkill when it comes to finding the right horses.

“In this day and age, we are very fortunate to be inundated with information, and more information. But when looking at a sales catalogue, as an example, we can be influenced by perceptions a lot of the time. The difference with this sale is that we have the advantage of viewing the all important aspect of a horse’s movement and to observe the way he uses himself. That’s a bonus, and while I may not ordinarily have looked at a particular horse, he can win his way into my heart and onto my shortlist with a nice gallop. From that starting point I will ultimately refine my preferred lots after viewing the conformation via a physical inspection and the catalogue page,“ he said.

In a change this year, the horses will stay at the training centre for the sale, which commences with session 1 on Thursday 24 November at 18:00 (Lots 1-118). Session 1 is on Friday 25 November 2016 at 18:00 (Lots 119-235).

“Having the gallops and sale under one roof is a big convenience plus too for horses , vendors and buyers,” said Kannemeyer.
