The rescheduled R85 000 Listed East Cape Nursery kicks off the battle scarred East Cape racing programme on Friday 5 June at Fairview. But it’s surely very provisional with the way things stand at the moment.
The June through August 2020 programme has been published by the National Racing Bureau but with entries due by 09h00 on Tuesday 26 May, there may be little enthusiasm to get excited with racing still in limbo and awaiting an answer from government.
Beyond the inevitable speculation and rumours filtering through, we are unable to conclusively provide any further clarity, despite NHA CEO Vee Moodley’s optimism and confidence late last week that we could well start racing by the end of May – ‘or even sooner’.
Moodley was reported as confirming that an adapted application from the NHA had been sent to the National Coronavirus Command Council and that receipt had been acknowledged.
While it’s pointless getting impatient with governmental red-tape, the ‘top of the pile’ hype and President Ramaphosa’s apparent conciliatory overtures are now a week old and wearing thin for an industry clawing on to life with each passing day.
