The invitation from Kenilworth Racing to start 2018 off with a bring and braai or picnic for the family at Durbanville Racecourse on Monday 1 January has an interesting catch to it. It reminds possible visitors to bring a picnic blanket – and your own braai too.
Are they being serious?
We contacted Tammy Gilmour at Kenilworth Racing to get some clarity. She confirmed that braai facilities and wood will in fact be provided. So just bring your own meat and salads.
Being a licenced venue, no alcohol is allowed to be brought in onto the premises.
The shocking aspect of this particular meeting is the fact that only 52 unners have accepted. Four of the races only have 5 runners per start.
This in the middle of the premier season of the premier racing destination in South Africa.
But four days later the overbooked Gauteng Gravy Train will again arrive in the Mother City – this time for the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Festival of Racing.
Something is wrong – badly wrong.
