Heritage Day fun at Durbanville Braai Day today

Good win for Mike Bass

Good win for Mike Bass

The Cape’s country course will be a popular destination for the Heritage Day crowd today. With some good quality racing dished up recently, the two form yards of Mike Bass and Glen Kotzen may also pay to follow on a competitive eight-race public holiday programme.

The Braai Day analogies aside, Glen Kotzen has been sizzling for some weeks already but Bass really caught fire at Durbanville last Wednesday with three nice winners.

With thirteen runners between them on Wednesday, they will pay to follow.

On Song

Glen Kotzen

Glen Kotzen – a good day

The day’s topliner is an MR 88 Handicap run over 1400m where the ten-runner field includes our top-rated Sussex Song (for Bass) and Glen Kotzen’s improving Stratocruiser, who has won 3 of his last 4 starts.

Greg Cheyne, who will be back from his lightning visit to Malaysia this past weekend, knows the Jet Master 4yo well and the pair won a cracker just a fortnight ago when he got the better of the capable Captive Action over 100m shorter.

Wide Draw

Sussex Song enjoys the track but has drawn widest of all. The son of Doowaley impressed when running on strongly behind the top-class Readytogorightnow last time.

He meets the quality sort Ace Antonius on 6kgs better terms for a narrow beating at his last start and appears to have the better of him again.

Tries Further

Another Feature winner! Justin Snaith

Another Feature winner! Justin Snaith

Justin Snaith saddles the topweight Bobby James, who is an unusual sprinting son of Fort Wood.

He has been on the fringes lately and his last run when 4,40 lengths behind De Kock was a fair effort. He may enjoy the extra now that he is maturing.

Improved

The Yogas Govender also enjoyed a turnaround of sorts in recent weeks and In Tribute enjoys a 2kg turnaround with Stratocruiser for a two length beating last time. The Trippi gelding may have needed the run and should be watched for more improvement.

Spring is in the air and what better way to welcome the warmer season than spending a day at the races. If you are still pondering how to spend National Heritage Day on September 24 the Durbanville Racecourse is the ideal spot for a family outing.

The beautifully located racetrack is extending an invite to all Capetonians to take part in the annual National Braai Day initiative which calls on all South Africans to unite around fires and share in South Africa’s rich heritage. Durbanville racecourse will play host to this special Braai race day on Heritage day, where race goers can purchase braai packs for a discounted price of R120 and fire up a braai. Charcoal, firelighters and a braai zone will be provided at the venue.

Another thrilling offer on the day will be live horseracing action with eight races on the card from top quality thoroughbreds. Kiddies’ entertainment will be available to ensure the little ones are equally entertained throughout the day. A bar, a -la- carte menu and fast food will additionally be on offer.
