The Duke Retains Royal Run

Duke Of Marmalade

Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade’s great run of form continued this weekend when the champion son of Danehill was represented by an impressive, five length juvenile winner in Ireland.

The Kevin Prendergast trained Jefferson Davis showed his appreciation of a step up in trip, when bolting up to win by five lengths in a nursery at Killarney on Friday.

Fitted with a visor for the first time, Jefferson Davis attracted plenty of betting support before the race, which saw the gelding come with a late challenge to win going away.

Winning jockey Chris Hayes was impressed with his mount’s effort, and said, “He’s a nice horse. We fancied him earlier in the year but he was probably racing over the wrong trip and the wrong ground. As a result he got a reasonable mark for what he’d done.”

His sire Duke Of Marmalade has enjoyed a tremendous year in 2015, with his runners including six group/graded winners.

The Drakenstein Stallion Day was held on Friday.
