Duke Flies In France

Drakenstein stallion continues to make his mark

duke-of-marmalade-racing-postFollowing the brilliant victory of his daughter Star Of Seville in Sunday’s G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks), her sire Duke Of Marmalade is now high up on the French General Sires List, his runners having amassed more than €780 000 in stakes.

Duke Of Marmalade is second, only to Dubawi, on the log and ranks clear of such outstanding stallions as Galileo (3rd), Danehill Dancer (6th), Invincible Spirit (8th), Pivotal (17th) and Shamardal (20th).

The former G1 Prince Of Wales Stakes hero is enjoying a tremendous season, with his other runners including brilliant classic winning filly Sound Of Freedom (Italian 1000 Guineas, 2nd Italian Derby) and Thursday’s G2 Ribblesdale contender Pamona.

Duke Of Marmalade, who won five consecutive Group 1 races in 2008, is also the third Leading Sire by stakes in Italy for 2015, and also ranks as the fourth leading sire (by prize money) in Europe.

The son of Danehill is behind only Cape Cross, Dubawi and Galileo on the European Sires List, and is also fourth Leading Sire of 3YOS (by stakes) in Europe this season thus far.
