The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 24 April 2013, Workrider Mr D Mazule was charged with a contravention of Rule 77 read in conjunction with Rule 77.1. and 77.1.1, in that a urine specimen taken from him at Turffontein Racecourse on 26 January 2013, disclosed upon analysis the presence of 11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxylic acid (carboxy-THC), a metabolite of cannabis, which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the National Horseracing Authority.
Mr Mazule pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge. The Inquiry Board imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of thirty (30) days.
Mr Mazule has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
