The Fort Wood mare Fortissima rounded off Sunday’s Summer Cup feature programme at Turffontein when she registered her second consecutive success in the R250 000 Listed Racing Association Handicap.
The Joey Soma mare is a gallant stayer and she repeated last year’s feat – with the exception that the race was a Gr3 in 2016 and has been downgraded to Listed status.
Anthony Delpech had the 5yo settled back of midfield and she mowed them down in the straight to win going away.
Fortissima ran on powerfully to hold off the MR 50-rated Eastern Pearl by 2,75 lengths in a time of 210,62 secs. The consistent Save The Rhino stayed on steadily in third.
KZN visitor Run Rhino Run, who set horseracing social media light last month with a runaway Greyville success, found nothing extra and was tailed off.
Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Fortissima is a daughter of the deceased Fort Wood (Sadlers Wells) out of Synchronize (Al Mufti).
She was purchased off the 2014 CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale where trainer Joey Soma went to R270 000 to acquire her.
Fortisssima has registered 5 wins with 6 places from her 18 starts and took her earnings to R839 450.
