2013 Two-Year-Old Sale Prices
15, 16 August 2013 at TBA Sales Complex, Germiston
Gary Player consigned both the top priced colt and filly at the Emperor’s Palace National 2yo Sale, held at the TBA complex last week. The average at the two-day sale was up 40% on last year, to R98k – the highest ever in the sale’s history.
The top priced colt was knocked down to Dennis Drier for a million. By champion sire Silvano, the colt is out of a winning half sister to Gr2 Natal Derby winner Superwood, from the potent Soho Secret family with which Silvano has been successful, notably multiple Gr1 winner and Equus Champion Kings Gambit.
Silvano was responsible for three of the four top lots at the sale, netting a cool R2.3 million for their consignors.
Five lots before the top colt made his mark, Player sold an Irish bred Yeats filly, whose dam (by Danehill Dancer) is a half sister to the dam of multiple German Champion Linngari. The filly is from the first crop of her sire Yeats, who scored a record four Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup wins. Ken Truter signed the R450k sales-slip.
The sale’s median price was up 30%, from R45k to R60k, also a new high. The fillies median was up 25% (R40k to R50k), while the colts’ median soared to R80k (from R55k to R80k, up 45%).
