Hopes that red tape can be sorted out quickly

Mauritius Hall Of Famer and top SA jockey Derreck David won the first feature of the season on the island on Saturday and was advised yesterday that he would have to apply for a permit to work.

On Monday the Gambling Regulatory Authority nformed the MTC that The Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) Exemptions (Amendment) Regulations 2019 came into force on 8 March 2019 and in terms of regulation 5 (b) thereof, all non-citizens, including those married to Mauritian nationals, now require a permit to engage in an occupation or to be employed in Mauritius.

As a result, the licenses of jockeys Cedric Segeon, Derreck David and Imran Chisty were  put on hold.
