De Kock nominates 13

A strong entry of 43 runners will be looking for a place in the field for the Gr2 Victory Moon Stakes to be run over 1800m at Turffontein on Friday 16 November.

The race also coincides with the annual Avis Coach Charter International Jockeys’ Challenge which will take place the same evening.

This race could be the last chance some runners will have to qualify for the Gr1 Sansui Summer Cup to be run on 1 December.

Among that group are Mujaarib and Meissa, both of whom have been priced up among the favourites for the R2-million race. Mujaarib hails from the stable of champion trainer Mike de Kock, who has nominated 13 runners.
Others include Silver Flyer, Ilsanpietro, Irish Flame, Vettel, Ilha Bela, Perana, Silent Partner and Berry Blaze. Meissa, who was beaten a neck by Mujaarib, hails from the yard of Gary Alexander and desperately needs the merit rating points to get him into the Summer Cup.

The good news for the connections is that if he should get in to the Victory Moon Stakes, Meissa will jump from barrier No 1 Sean Tarry has entered six runners, including Baracah, who has won both of his starts since having been gelded. He has raced over shorter but the manner in which he ran on last Saturday from way off the pace to beat Brooks-Club, indicates this 1800m on the standside track should be ideal. Also looking for a Summer Cup place is Straw Market, trained by Ormond Ferraris.

The Windrush gelding finished just one length behind Mujaarib and will also be better over this course and distance.

The Inspiring Story Of Dr Marianne Thomson

‘I am writing this as an older, small breeder and in our language, Markus, because this is our war. If I phoned you, I’d be overwhelmed by business jargon within a minute. What makes you so angry that you don’t care what you are doing to our shaky industry? How do you deal with this in your inner, quiet self?’
