South African jockey Derreck ‘DD’ David, a past Mauritius champion and one of only a handful of riders to have his name entered on the Island’s Hall Of Fame, will not be permitted to ride at the Champ de Mars for the next two seasons.
In terms of a new local guideline issued last month, the license of jockeys Cédric Ségeon and Derreck David were revoked by the MTC with immediate effect last week.
The MTC reports that this action was taken by virtue of guideline number 1 of 2021 of the GRA, issued on January 2, and which stipulates that a foreign jockey, who has ridden in Mauritius for 3 consecutive seasons – an entire season or part of the season – will not be allowed to ride there during the following 2 seasons.
The Frenchman and the South African have both been in action at the Champ de Mars in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The Sporting Post has endeavoured unsuccessfully to obtain a comment from David as to what his plans are.
