Despite the lockdown of their racing, the Mauritius Turf Club Stipendiary Stewards conducted a hearing by video conference last week.
The MTC advise that further to the postponement of the ‘League Of Legends’ de novo inquiry on 19 March 2020, the Inquiry Board, in agreement with Trainer Daby and his legal counsel, continued the hearing via video conference on 30 April 2020 at 11h00.
Trainer Daby was charged under the Mauritius Turf Club rules of racing for a contravention of rule 208A(5). Where the particulars of the charge were read as follows:
In that as a licenced trainer, and the trainer of a horse under his care and charge, namely LEAGUE OF LEGENDS, who had been entered as a runner for the race meeting 16 June 2018, after a non-raceday sample of blood was taken from the horse on 14 June 2018 at 17h55 at the Champ de Mars, upon analysis contained Human Recombinate Erythropoietine, which in terms of the rules of the Mauritius Turf Club is an illicit substance.
Trainer Daby pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Board, with consideration given to the unprecedented conditions subject to the spread of Covid-19, has allowed Mr Daby time to consult with his legal counsel and afforded the opportunity to make written submissions on his plea by no later than 17h00 on Wednesday 6 May 2020.
A continuation via video conference is set for 8 May 2020.
