Lot 12 is related to the well performed Dancer’s Daughter
New vendors, Soetendal Estate, have a strong crop of juveniles on sale at this weekend’s Cape Ready To Run Sale.
The farm sends ten well bred juveniles to the two day sale, which will be held at Durbanville from October 4th to October 5th.
The first of the farm’s lots (offered as agent) to come up for sale is lot 12– a bay son of champion 2yo sire Captain Al. The colt, already named Search Party, is out of a half-sister to Equus Champion and Vodacom Durban July winner Dancer’s Daughter. This is also the family of former Gr1 Gold Cup hero Icona.
Second of the draft to come forward for sale is lot 18, a colt called Political Power. By proven sire Windrush, this colt is a half-brother to two winners, and is out of a Royal Academy mare who won four times. From a top international family, this colt’s relatives include former French Derby runner up Solid Illusion.
Soetendal are back in the ring with the very next lot – lot 19. By leading sire Trippi, whose sons include last year’s Gr1 winning 2yo Afrikaburn, this colt’s dam is a half-sister to the Oaks winning sisters Royal Prophecy and Noble Destiny. This is also the family of the outstanding filly Gypsy’s Warning – winner of the Gr1 Matriarch Stakes in North America.
Few horses on this sale have stronger pedigrees than lot 27. This bay colt is by promising young sire Seventh Rock, whose first crop produced the Gr1 Tsogo Sun Medallion winner Guiness. This colt is a half-brother to no fewer than three stakes winners, including the uber promising 3yo Act Of War, winner of the Gr3 Langerman last season and one of the Cape’s top rated classic hopes.
Former Gr1 Medallion winner Seventh Rock is also the sire of lot 67. This bay colt is out of a six time winning half-sister to Derby Trial hero East Wind, and this is also the family of Gold Cup third Ile Maurice.
Seventh Rock shares his sire Rock Of Gibraltar with another promising Cape based sire – Rock Of Rochelle. This very smart sprinter is the sire of lot 110, a well bred bay colt. From the famous Lisa Belle family, the colt is out of a half-sister to former Gr3 Winter Guineas winner State Crown.
Rebel’s Fate is the name of lot 114 – a chestnut colt by former Equus Champion Sprinter, Rebel King. He is out of a winning half-sister (by champion US sire Thunder Gulch) to Argentinian Gr1 winner Emergente, while his second dam was also a top-flight winner in Argentina.
Another former top class sprinter, King’s Apostle, is the sire of lot 130 – a bay filly by the name of Royal Phoenix. She is out of a granddaughter of champion filly Ecurie, and this is the famous E family, whose members include champions Empress Club, Eventuail and highly promising local sire Elusive Fort.
Ideal World – has them talking!
Angkor Wat is the name of lot 135, a bay son of Kingmambo’s promising young son Ideal World. His first two dams are by champion sires Fort Wood and Alydar respectively, and this is the family of international superstars Dayjur and Sky Beauty, to name but two.
Lot 144 is a really nicely bred colt – who is certainly bred to be a very classy 2yo indeed. He is by top sire, and prolific juvenile winner producer, Trippi, and is a half-brother to former Gr1 winning juvenile The Hangman (Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes). The colt, who has been named Midnite Zone, is out of a three parts sister to the high-class North American runners Slew’s Tizzy and Slew’s Tiznow.
This is a very attractive first draft, with something on it to suit every buyer.
Soetendal itself, which is owned by Julia Pilbeam and husband Deon Ensink, is a 50 hectare plot situated just outside of Wellington. A really beautiful farm, Soetendal’s general manager is Ricardo Christian, who has worked extensively on farms and at sales all over the world.
Soetendal is not only a pre-training farm, but also boards broodmares and is used by many of the Cape’s top trainers for spelling and resting their star racehorses.
Among the many happy thoroughbreds boarding at the farm is Bump ‘n Grind (dam of champion sprinter Via Africa), who recently gave birth to a lovely Oratorio filly.
Past graduates of the farm include Via Africa herself (a former pre training graduate), as well as the likes of Gr1 Krisflyer Sprint winner Ato (now standing at Summerhill Stud), Horse Of The Year Irish Flame, Gr1 Champions Cup hero Futura, and Singapore Gr1 winner Flax. They all were graduates of Soetendals’ pre training programme.
