Galloping To Glory

Plenty of quality on show at Lanzerac RTR Gallops

Lots of talk about #100

Lots of talk about Silvano’s son, Silver Chalice (#100)

A large crowd turned out on a beautiful sunny day at Durbanville today to watch the breeze up gallops ahead of this weekend’s CTS Lanzerac Ready To Run Sale.

Cape Thoroughbred Sales Chief Operating Officer Adrian Todd was all smiles in the aftermath of a tiring but productive day and said that he could not be happier with the way things were building into Saturday evening’s bidding platform.

“We were very happy with the way things went today. The sale has a lot of quality horses on offer, the weather was great and there was a good turnout and plenty of interest from buyers.”

While there were a number of really well related juveniles on show , there are few with better pedigrees than #100.

Going by the name of Silver Chalice, the Maine Chance Farms consigned colt is a son of record breaking champion sire Silvano.

One of South Africa’s best stallions, Silvano’s offspring include 14 individual G1 winners.

The bay Silver Chalice is out of the Royal Chalice mare Crystal Chalice, a proven Grade 1 producer. The now deceased Crystal Chalice is the dam of the gutsy and brilliant filly Sparkling Gem, whose six wins included the Gr1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas. Now at stud, Sparkling Gem earned over R1 million on the track, and won or placed in 12 feature races.

Crystal Chalice herself is out of G1 Cape Fillies Guineas in the form of Flying Snowdrop, while Silver Chalice himself traces back directly in female to Hydroplane II – dam of US Triple Crown winner Citation.

Another impressive galloper was the aptly named Diamond (#49), a lovely bay filly by Seventh Rock from the winner producing Model Man mare, True Match.

Warm White Night colt (#68) from Balmoral was also impressive

Balmoral Stud were proud to show their unnamed Warm White Night chestnut colt (#68) out of the Kabool mare, Angel Cake.

The good-looking fellow threw his legs out nicely and should attract plenty of interest as he is beautifully bred on both sides.

Balmoral Stud also showed the one and only Henrythenavigator on the sale and the unnamed Aussie bred bay colt (#164) also showed lovely work.

HenryTheNavigator (USA) was a brilliantly fast winner of 4 Gr.1 races in a row, including 2 Classics. At 2 he won the Gr.2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in a new track record.

By the proven sire of sires Kingmambo from the Gr1 winning 2-y-o Sequoyah, the Coolmore stallion is exceptionally well-bred.

This 2yo is out of the Australian bred Bluebird mare, Ladybird Blue a stakes winner in her homeland.

The sale commences on Saturday evening at 19h00 when lots 1 through to 75 will be sold.

It continues the next day at 14h00 when 76 to 181 will go under the hammer.

Since last year’s inaugural winner Captain America, this sale has gone from strength to strength. While this year’s prize money will remain at a very tidy R2mil, CTS announced last week that the horses to be sold at this weekend’s sale will race next year for a stakes increase of R500k taking the prize money to a very attractive R2.5mil.

There are a number of horses that were purchased at this year’s CTS Premier and March book 2 sale entered in this year’s sale that effectively means as well as being eligible to run in the R2.5m Lanzerac Ready to Run race in 2015, they’re also paid up and eligible for the CTS US$1mil race in January 2016.

In addition, approved buyers will be able to take advantage of ninety day interest fee terms to secure their purchases as well as a plethora of technology available to assist them in making their selections with live streams, gallops on demand and replay kiosks on site.

This year’s sale features 47 different stallions from both home and abroad.
