CTS Graduates Flying High

Impressive dominance of Heritage Day meeting!

Brett Crawford. Top two in Cape Guineas

Brett Crawford aiming the promising Alexis for the pot of gold!

The National Heritage Day racemeeting at Durbanville on Wednesday turned out to be one to remember with six out of the eight winners being Cape Thoroughbred Sales graduates.

The first winner came in race number one with the Brett Crawford trained Alexis.

Having only her second visit to the races, the daughter of Dynasty demolished the field with a comprehensive 5.25 length win seemingly untouched for Mrs Sherrell the part owner of last years ready to run winner Captain America. A R200 000 purchase at the 2013 Lanzerac Ready to Run sale, Alexis will now most likely be aimed towards the CTS Lanzerac graduate race on the 22nd of November at Kenilworth where she will race for stakes of R2mil.

The second race produced another Ready to Run graduate in Even So for trainer Vaughan Marshall & owners Mr & Mrs Jooste.

After showing constant improvement since her first start back in late April, the gelded son of Black Minnaloushe out of Even Drift started a warm favourite and didn’t disappoint his followers with a tradesman like ¾ length win. A R120 000 purchase, he now also looks destined for the CTS Lanzerac R2mil feature making him a great value purchase.

The third winner of the day came from the son of Klawervlei sire Rebel King in the form of Rebel House to take him out of the maidens. Sold by Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm, he was a R300 000 purchase from the 2012 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

After five minor placings, Banadana Girl took out the fourth race by a thumping 5.75 lengths for trainer Neil Bruss and owner Mrs M Paterson.

The super consistent daughter of Go Deputy has been a great earner for her owner collecting cheques at six of her eight starts. The filly was also an astute purchase of R10 000 at the 2012 CTS book 2 sale.

Race six saw another winner for Vaughan Marshall with another CTS book 2 graduate in Olympian.

Representing incredible value at R70 000  from the Rosedene Stud draft the 3YO colt now has two wins and three minor places from his eight starts more than repaying the faith in his owner Mr Mitchell.

Rounding out the super six was the 4YO filly Can Cope another graduate of the 2012 Cape Premier Sale from champion breeders Klawervlei Stud. At R50 000, the daughter of National Emblem has now won two of her twelve starts for conditioner Harold Crawford since getting to the mile.

The next CTS sale is the R2mil Lanzerac Ready to Run Sale with gallops to be conducted at Durbanville Racecourse on the 2nd of October. Selling commences on the 4th with the last of the 181 lots catalogued to be sold on the 5th.
