The smashing black-and-gold catalogue for the 2016 CTS Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale is being delivered to mail boxes around the country. Also available is the online catalogue for this top-drawer sale, scheduled for Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Friday 15 April.
The one-day sale offers the premier draft of yearlings from South Africa’s three leading breeders; Champions Klawervlei Stud, runner-up Summerhill Stud and third-placed Highlands Farm; as well as the choice lots from many other prominent stud farms around the country.
Included in the various consignments are those yearlings that missed the CTS Cape Premier Sale in January and are much better suited for the auction ring now with more natural maturity; and several others who have come through the woodwork having just recently emerged on farms, showing themselves to be potentially top thoroughbred buys.
Horses sold at this, the last CTS yearling sale of 2016 (along with purchases from the 2016 Cape Premier Yearling Sale and the 2016 CTS March Sale), will be eligible for the 2018 CTS Million Dollar races (1200m and 1600m), to be run in Cape Town during 2018 on the Investec Day Of Dreams, and will each carry a stake of $US500,000.
No buy-ins will be permitted and there will be an incredible $US1-million bonus to the owner(s) if they were to own the winners of both CTS Million Dollar Races.
The one-day sale starts at 2pm and 199 lots will come under the hammers of Andrew Miller and the internationally renowned Irishman John O’Kelly.
These will include offspring of established super stallions Captain Al, Dynasty, Silvano and Trippi, new sire sensations Querari and Seventh Rock and a host of relatively new kids on the block, among them the highly regarded Await The Dawn, Oratorio and Twice Over.
The sale will be preceded by a Cocktail Party and Charity Poker Evening in the Gladiator’s Poker Room on Thursday evening, 14 April. There is a poker buy-in of R5,000 and the event starts at 18.30. (Poker at 19.30).
