Pathfork
Highlands Farm’s promising young stallion Pathfork was responsible for the sales topper at Saturday night’s CTS August 2YO Sale.
Pathfork, also responsible for the sales’ third top lot is the sire of Bonnie Prince, catalogued as lot 86, who was knocked down for R260 000.
The colt, consigned by Highlands Farm, was purchased by John Freeman. Bonnie Prince, whose sire was Ireland’s Champion 2YO Colt in 2010, is out of the well bred Theatrical mare Sound The Flute, whose high class relatives include the champion fillies Balanchine and It’s In The Air and former G1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) winner West Wind.
It is not the first time that Pathfork, whose first crop race this season, has made waves in the sales ring. He was also responsible for the sales topping colt at this year’s Klawervlei Farm Sale, while another Pathfork colt fetched R700 000 at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale earlier in the year.
The sales top filly came in the form of 96, an unnamed daughter of former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Gimmethegreenlight. Knocked down to CW Nelson for R150 000, the Nadeson Stud consigned filly is out of the three time winning Jallad mare Great Aclea and from the same family as G1 SA Derby and leading Equus Awards hopeful Legal Eagle.
Highlands were the sales’ leading vendors, selling nine lots for an aggregate of R860 000, ahead of the Rosedene, Ambiance and Normandy Studs respectively.
It was double joy for Highlands, as Pathfork not only sired the sales topper, but also ended as the sales’ leading sire by aggregate, with his four lots grossing R670 000.
Behind Pathfork on the sires list came Greys Inn, Elusive Fort and Gimmethegreenlight.
The sale aggregate was R4,285,000, with an average of R59,514 and median of R40,000.
