A single colt by in-demand stallion Oratorio will be sold at the CTS August Two-Year-Old Sale at Durbanville next Saturday.
His name is Vittorio (Lot 46), and he was raised by Paul and Lindi Garlicki at Connemara Stud, an establishment recently moved to a 160 acre farm near Windmeul, Paarl, and set for greater participation in years to come.
Paul Garlicki tells: “We’re developing the farm with the help of owner Roland Bouwer and we have 45 mares based here already, 14 of our own and the others from patrons like Roland, Lawrence Wernars and Lee Scribante.”
He said About Vittorio: “He’s a big horse, a bit immature still but with plenty of scope. He’s the second foal of a Tiger Ridge mare, Tiger Strike, whose first foal Varifast (by VAR), ran fifth first time out and won second time round. There is speed and stamina in his pedigree, his female line shows sprinters like Country Glory and Cedar as well as a stayer of the quality of Proud Pilgrim.”
Another Connemara-bred on the sale is Lot 16, Magic Mary, a daughter of Horse Chestnut and Mary Hinge, by Second Empire.
“Magic Mary is a smart, attractive filly and needless to say she’s by the damsire of this year’s Met winner, Smart Call,” said Garlicki.
“We bought her back at the CTS Premier Sale and then withdrew her from the National Sale due to a skin disease, but she’s all fine now and looking beautiful. She has a wonderful female line, her granddam is a full-sister to the dam of Sacred Kingdom who was Horse Of The Year in Hong Kong in 2010. Magic Mary is big, she will make a good broodmare after her racing career.”
Connemara Stud bred two stakes winners from only 13 runners in 2013, including Pecan Nut, and their most recent top performer is Dynasty’s daughter Alexis, who beat Inara and Silver Mountain in the Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes at Greyville.
