Avontuur’s top class sire Var looks to have another exciting prospect on his hands in the form of Croisette, who gave trainer Dennis Drier and jockey Sean Veale a happy start to their Cape Summer campaign on Tuesday.
Owned and bred by Varsfontein Stud, she stamped herself a filly to watch when she romped home to a four and a half length debut win, when scoring over 1000m.
Sent off an 8-11 tote favourite, Croisette had been second in a barrier trial on her only previous racecourse outing.
Out of the Windrush mare Sunsational, the three-year-old is bred on the same Var/Windrush cross as Gr2 The Debutante winner A Womens Way.
Twice Leading Sire of 2Yo’s in South Africa, and sire of more than 90 stakes horses, Var is set to be represented by two daughters in Saturday’s Listed Gardenia Stakes (Ilha Da Varlette, Nawaasi) and by Casual Diamond in the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes on the same afternoon at Kenilworth.
Var has four lots at this month’s CTS Ready To Run Sale.
