Crawford – ‘White River Has Big Chance’

July trophy headed for Philippi?

Brett Crawford has been one of the most in-form trainers when it comes to feature races, but he has yet to win the Vodacom Durban July.

Brett Crawford – yet to win July

Tabnews reports that he certainly has gone close.

Angus was touched off by Ipi Tombe in 2002 while Futura ran a close-up third to Legislate in 2014.

Last year Edict Of Nantes ran on well to finish third, beaten just 0.35 lengths by Marinaresco.

This year Crawford saddles White River who will jump from draw No 13. “I would have preferred lower but it’s ok,” he said.

Asked whether the three-year-old by Trippi had improved with gelding, he replied: “He has certainly shown he has improved in his work at home.”

“I think he has as good a chance as Edict Of Nantes had last year.”

That’s quite a statement as Edict Of Nantes was already a two-time Grade 1 winner going into the Durban July.
