Cousin Casey Back at Hollywoodbets Greyville Today

First race at 12h40

Glen Kotzen’s top notch 3yo Cousin Casey last saw action at the historic Hollywoodbets Greyville track when winning the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes at the end of last term and the smashing son of Vercingetorix commences his 2023 SA Champions Season campaign in the Gr3 Byerley Turk at 16h10 today.

Hollywoodbets Greyville will also welcome two recent newsmakers back into the jockey room today.

It will likely be an emotional return to the Durban City Track for both Billy Jacobson and Muzi Yeni after a forgettable Monday 13 February scarred both their careers.

But with that unfortunate case behind them, Jacobson takes a ride in the opener on Global Outlook for Yogas Govender, while Yeni has three rides later on the card.

Jacobson took two rides at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday, while Yeni made a low-profile return to the saddle with two rides on The Championships Day 3 on Saturday at Turffontein.

But the star crowd-puller will be Glen Kotzen’s Cousin Casey in the Gr3 Byerley Turf in Race 7.

He had to overcome a wide draw of 14 when fifth in the Gr1 WSB Cape Town Met last time and was far from disgraced that day. The son of Vercingetorix is unbeaten from three starts on this course and two of those victories were over today’s distance.

Grant van Niekerk makes the trip up from the Mother City to do duty and the combination should start their KZN campaign on a winning note.

Visiting trainer Grant Maroun sends out In The Ether in Race 4. She is better than her last start suggests as she was reported to be not striding out.

It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once, finished second once and third three times from ten starts over this distance. The daughter of Announce takes a drop-in class and if all went well with her travels, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

The Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge offers players another chance to play free and win big! Entries must be logged by 12h35.
