Country Course Hosts Twilight Meeting

Come Racing At Durbanville

Durbanville Twilight Meeting

While the Cape Season may be winding down after the triumph that was the 2018 Sun Met, Kenilworth Racing will be putting our refurbed Country Course to good use with a twilight meeting at Durbanville this Saturday, 3 February 2018.

Doors open at 13:30 and the first race field will be under starter’s orders at 15:00pm. The card boasts 8 races, with the final race off at 19:15.

Ralph’s catering team will be putting on a buffet for members in the upstairs area, at R245 for a full starter, main and dessert menu, with the buffet open for 5 hours. There is also an a la carte menu for non members and day visitors downstairs offering a ‘street food’ menu including crumbed calamari, gourmet burgers, cheese grillers, chicken wraps, spit roast lamb rolls and more. They also have both credit card and SnapScan facilities.

No transport? No excuse! HG Travel will be laying on shuttle buses from Kenilworth to Durbanville for R20 return and anyone making use of the bus service will receive a R10 betting voucher from BettingWorld. There will be security guards to take care of your car at Kenilworth. The first bus leaves from Kenilworth at 12:30 and the first shuttle back to Kenilworth will leave Durbanville at 5:30pm.

There will be entertainment for the kiddies in the form of face painting and glitter tattoos amongst others. For the adults, there will be live music, draft beer from Drifter Brewing and Gin & Tonic on tap. There is also additional ‘edu-tainment’ in the form of a farriery demonstration from the South African Association of Professional Farriers (SAAPF).

Luella Robinson, who has been involved behind the scenes in putting the day together, says, “The course was built as a community facility and it would be great to get families back and see it used as a family venue again. Kenilworth Racing has put all this money into refurbing the track, why not utilise it? A twilight meeting makes perfect sense at this time of year, because it’s cooler for the horses.”

Luella and Mike took their string to Durbanville for grass gallops on Thursday and said the track is looking great.
