Mike de Kock is hoping that the stable’s leading sprinter Shea Shea will be fit and ready for the Gr1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes over 1000m on 22 August at York, following the seven-year-old’s scratching from the Darley July Cup on 12 July.

Mike said earlier this week: “Shea Shea bled after the King’s Stand Stakes at Ascot and we have given him a short spell to try to get his lungs to repair. He has been on the go for quite a while and he is a year older, it is not getting easier to keep him going. I am hoping he will be able to run in the Nunthorpe.”

Shea Shea was beaten half a length by 40-1 outsider Jwala in last year’s Nunthorpe when he started favourite under Frankie Dettori.

The Nunthorpe Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race for two-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 5 furlongs and 3 yards (1,009 metres) at York Racecourse during the Ebor Festival meeting in August.

In its present form the race dates back to 1922, although before then it had been a lower grade selling race since 1903.
