The new year hasn’t gotten off to the brightest of starts for jockey Collen Storey.
The hardworking rider had a fall while riding work at Randjesfontein last Saturday morning and underwent surgery to his knee on Friday.
The Centurion-based Storey spoke to the Sporting Post via his agent, Jonathan Ebersey, and said that he expected to be out of action for six weeks.
“While it’s an occupational hazard, and injury is always a risk for any jockey, Collen is fit and positive and keen to get back. But he will likely be out for six weeks,” said Ebersey, who confirmed that the 25 year old was resting at home and was in ‘some pain’.
He was operated on for a grade 2 torn MCL ligament and will require regular physiotherapy over the next few weeks as part of the recovery process.
Collen has ridden 17 winners this season and rode his first winner on 11 November 2012 aboard Trimontium for Lowan Denysschen.
He rides mainly in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape and Kimberley.
