Mingle With The Jocks – For A Good Cause

Make a date for Durbanville on 10 October

Rugby n racingThe Coastal Jockey Association is hosting an exciting charity race day on 10 October at Durbanville Race Course, with the WP Grooms School and the Western Cape Equine Trust as the beneficiaries.

The Coastal Jockey Association is the representative body of the Cape and Eastern Cape-based jockeys and is tasked with dealing with racing matters affecting the jockeys.

“It is always said that jockeys just take from the horseracing game and never give anything back. We felt that hosting a charity race day would be a wonderful way of giving something back to retired racehorses and the grooms, who are a big part of our lives. Our aim is to try and get as many people as we can to the racecourse,“ said joint spokesmen Greg Cheyne and MJ Byleveld.

While the programme is still being finalised, there will be a live band, kids entertainment, and the public can come along to the country course and watch the Wales-Australia game and mingle with the jockeys.

The popular annual jockeys chase is also being held, and is sponsored by the South African Association of Professional Farriers (SAAPF).

“The industry has been terrific. The response so far is amazing and we have sold off all eight races – but other sponsors are more than welcome to contact us and get involved for this great cause,” said Byleveld.
