Clocking The Creditors

It's complicated - clearly

Business Rescue has become the latest buzzword on the South African racing scene. Everybody’s interested but few seem to really understand it.

Like being asked what we thought of John Evan’s report on Phumelela which arrived in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Who knows what to think when it’s the only report of its kind that most of us have ever tried to read with any degree of interest?

With rumour and speculation flying around every turn, it may certainly be worthwhile tuning in at 12h00 on Thursday when Biznews’ astute founder Alec Hogg has RA CEO Brian Riley and Task Team member Charles Savage in the hotseat.

Catch it here

If nothing else, Business Rescue has opened the hatches to some interesting and puzzling items.

Like the creditors claims list published on Phumelela’s website – click here

We note the name of one Equimotion Technologies (Pty) Ltd and their claim of R2 070 062, and recall that Phumelela informed us just two months ago that the company responsible for supplying their sectional timing data did not rectify inaccuracies in their data highlighted by the National Horseracing Authority

Phumelela informed that they had been left with no option but to terminate the contract and to discontinue sectional timing.

In February 2019 the National Horseracing Authority of South Africa advised that  Phumelela had fulfilled the racing regulator’s requirements and with effect from 2 March 2019, Racing Operators’ Condition 13 would be enforced by them.

In March 2020 the National Horseracing Authority  suspended Sectional Timing in Phumelela regions due to ‘inaccurate data being generated by the system in use’.

At the time NHA CEO Mr Moodley said that despite the initial clearance given and the subsequent implementation of the enforcement of Racing Operator ‘s Condition 13, information at their disposal had indicated that the system appeared to be not functioning accurately and the integrity of the data generated for public consumption was thus in question.

And besides trainers and jockeys rejecting the transponders as cumbersome and non-friendly for horses, we cannot recall ever really having enjoyed sectional timing for Joe Public’s use, to speak of.

So the claim is interesting, if it’s related to that.
