China Buys Big at Arqana HIT Sale

China Horse Club Top Purchaser at Arqana Saint-Cloud

The Arqana 2014 Saint-Cloud Arc Sale was held at their Deauville facility on Saturday, 4 October and featured 37 sale lots, including a number of runners entered for the weekend’s race meeting at Longchamp.

Michael Wallace, acting as agent for the China Horse Club, purchased a total of 5 horses, including the top lot, Auvray (Le Havre-Ameyrah/In The Wings).  The colt, which had won the Gr2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay earlier that afternoon, was led through the ring as Lot 16 and the hammer fell at €800,000.  He is being earmarked as a Melbourne Cup prospect.

Irish trainer Dermot Weld purchased lot 18, a Sea The Stars colt out of Kris mare Behkara on behalf of Calumet Farm for €525,000.

The total aggregate rose 19.45% to €6,435,000 and the average was up a staggering 48.6% to €268,125.
