Another Manic Monday?

Punters have the wind at their backs today

lightning-gallery-18A sense of déjà vu or can lightning strike twice? That will be the question on most punter’s lips in advance of the Flamingo Park meeting today where Cape jockey Greg Cheyne and tlocal rainer Hennie Kotze set out to mirror their achievement of just seven days ago – and with the same two horses!

Cheyne makes the arduous trip up to the Northern Cape for the very same two rides again and this time commentator Alistair Cohen and the rest of the world, will know that his name is no printing error in the racecard.

Last Monday Cheyne and trainer Hennie Kotze teamed up with just two runners at Kimberley and they both won. Both are owned by Victor Viljoen.

The first Wind At Your Back opened 40/1 and won at 13/2. The second, Elegant Bay opened 66/1 and won at 12/1. That’s a 2746/1 double on opening!

Today Kotze has three runners, of which two will be ridden by Cheyne.

Wind At Your Back runs in the second race and has drifted marginally from 11 to 2  out to 6 to 1, while Elegant Bay in the final event has firmed from 16 to 10 into 15 to 10.

If the feat is repeated, it will surely qualify as something of a South African record, given the unique circumstances.

The Bipot kicks off in race 2 at 12h50, while there is also a Pick 6 carryover of R140 245 with a projected pool of R700 000 expected.

The weather in Kimberley is sunny with a temperature of 21 degrees forecast.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
