On Sunday, 23 June the Gr2 Betting World Derby and the Gr2 Betting World Oaks were run at the Garden Course, Clairwoood. Dylan’s Promise (Dylan Thomas) won the Oaks impressively for trainer Charles Laird, scoring 14 points.

Second placed Sky Pirate (Victory Moon) scored 9 points and third placed Priceless Jewel (Ashaawes) was not in the competition. In the Derby, Abercrombie (Trippi) was the most popular selection in the competition and finished third, scoring 6 points for his followers. However, it was another graded win this season for the stallion Silvano, Silvano’s Jet won a gutsy race for trainer Joey Ramsden, scoring 14 points. Second placed Hot Ticket (Silvano) was not in the competition.

Whilst this weekend is a quiet one for the competition the KZN Breeders race day at Greyville Racecourse on Sunday, 30 June promises to be an exciting race meeting with the feature race for graduates of the Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale, The KZN Breeders Mile, carrying a purse of R1million. The entire Leader Board can now be viewed on the Charity Turf Challenge home page.

After the results of the past week there have been no big movers in the competition but the following entries in the top 10 all earned a valuable point with champion sprinter What A Winter (Western Winter): JOHNDO 3, Philani 1, putnose1,banas boy 6, Rainbow Allstars, You Beauty, You Beauty5,man u 20. and will be hoping that the final race of his career, the Gr1 Mercury Sprint to be held on Saturday 13 July at Clairwood Racecourse, will score them a further 20 points.

Due to time constraints, there was no spot prize draw on Sunday, 23 June (Clairwood) on Tellytrack. So far, there have been 11 winners in the computer generated lucky draw and the remaining amount of R4 500 sponsored by TAB GOLD “The Intelligent Bet” will be split between Vodacom Durban July Day and “Super Saturday”, featuring the Gr1 Gold Cup.

As and when Charity Turf Challenge horses earn points, we will update the Racing South Africa website and email data-base: www.racingsouthafrica.co.za
