Champions Challenge Ante-Post Betting Open

Legal Eagle is 2-1 favourite

The unbeaten Paul Peter trained Majestic Mambo has been priced up at 5-1 by SA’s leading bookmakers Hollywood for the R4 million Gr1 Premier’s Champions Challenge which will be run at Turffontein on Saturday 5 May.

The 5-1 shot Majestic Mambo – how good is he?

Majestic Mambo, who faces his biggest task to date in the Gauteng Guineas at the same track on Saturday 3 March, is a contender for the SA Derby – the SA Triple Crown third leg – which is run over 2450m on the same day as the Champions Challenge. So his participation is no certainty.

Dual SA Horse Of The Year Legal Eagle has been chalked up as 2-1 favourite and is all set to avenge his narrow defeat last year by Deo Juvente, who is entered again for this year’s contest. Legal Eagle won the race in 2016.

The second entries close at 11h00 on Tuesday 27 March, with third entries due by 11h00 on Tuesday 17 April.

Weights for the Champions Challenge will be published by Tuesday 17 April, with declarations due by 11h00 on Wednesday 25 April.
