EL CAMINO can win (Pic by Singapore Turf Club)

It’s safe to say that Sigrid “Siggy” Carr didn’t set the world on fire at her first meeting in Singapore.

The Dux of Adelaide Apprentice School had only one unplaced ride last Friday but to be fair to the young Aussie hoop, the horse was always going to struggle.

But one week on, Siggy must be doing the hard yards at track work as her book tonight looks very good with most of her five rides having solid each-way chances.

So Carr – who only has a three-week license – will be looking to make an impression and it starts with CACTUS JACK in race 3.

The 5YO looks very well placed over 1200m on the Poly in BM67 company and might even be nice value in what looks a good race.

Siggy won’t have time to think with two more solid rides – THE DODGER and LIM’S GREETING – in frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120races 4 and 5 respectively before jumping on LINCOLN’S EXCUSE in race 8, who looks a serious winning hope.

Hopefully she has a result on the board before the last but just in case MARTIN should run well again in Class 4 Company and will appreciate her handy 3kg claim.

A jockey with a future and one to follow on Friday.

Race 1

Selections; 1 MR PATRON – 4 MOTHER NATURE – 9 RORY – 2 LUCKY SIX
The planets align for MR PATRON in the opening race as the 7YO finds himself back in his only winning grade and two time winning trip. His recent form in better company than this has been more than solid and from gate 3 he might be hardest to beat. MOTHER NATURE also recently dropped to Class 5 and while her two runs have been just fair, we like the fact she gets blinkers and comes off a solid trial so expect a good run. LUCKY SIX – stablemate of MR PATRON – is overdue for a win and while he must be respected, the wide gate could make it tough today. RORY over his pet trip and the in-form I-SCREAM NOW two others that win without surprising.

1 MR PATRON *** Significant drop in Class and hard to beat from gate 3. 3.00
2 LUCKY SIX *** Overdue for a result given the support and will need the favours from the bad alley. 8.00
3 RUN CHEETAH RUN ** Disappointing last couple but worth keeping an eye on the market. 20
4 MOTHER NATURE *** Excuses last start but subsequent trial was good and can win with blinkers added. 9.00
5 PETITE VICTOIRE * Very disappointing at three starts since winning and have to ignore. 20
6 BASTION * All sorts of excuses last start but will be a better option over longer. 33
7 GOLDEN BOBO * Well beaten this company last start and needs to improve. 20
8 PROBO CHANDROSO ** Not a mile away last start in similar affair and can include in exotics. 20
9 RORY *** Always a show this trip and track. 5.00
10 SUPER BIG ** Yet to run a drum but could improve with blinkers on first time. 20
11 SUPER EIGHT ** Not the type to win out of turn but always worth a look. 8.00
12 I-SCREAM NOW *** Awkward gate a concern but in solid form and should play a part late. 8.00
13 NOVA VICTORY ** Been thereabouts of late at odds and worth including in skinny end of exotics. 20
14 KENNEDY ** Improved to place last start and have to respect on that effort. 20

Race 2

Selections; 5 HATTA – 7 PREMIER FIGHTER – 8 Q NINE MILLION – 9 SILKINO
An extremely weak field in this maiden dash and HATTA gets his chance. The 3YO had excuses on debut before just missing last start and from gate 3 with a handy 2kg CC Wong claim, he is the one to be on. PREMIER FIGHTER looks the biggest danger. The Steve Burridge-trained 3YO put in a solid debut but more importantly has subsequently trialed well with blinkers on and he must go close with head-gear added with Duric onboard from gate 4 a bonus. The depth of this field is so weak that there are only two others to consider with Q NINE MILLION on debut some hope on solid trial form and SILKINO also a show back on the Poly.

1 LUCKY STRIDE * Very green and hard to consider with tongue-tie off. 50
2 PHANFONE * Struggles. 100
3 CAI POH WANG * Battled away over 1400m last start and might find this too short. 12
4 SUPER RED * Has shown glimpses but hard to consider on recent form. 33
5 HATTA *** Just missed last start after excuses on debut and hard to beat in this weak field. 2.00
6 LIM’S OPERATION * Did not show up at Official trial and would need support before considering. 20
7 PREMIER FIGHTER *** Gets blinkers added after solid debut and trial with headgear suggests he goes very close. 3.00
8 Q NINE MILLION ** Solid at two Official trials and should figure in the mix. 6.00
9 SILKINO ** Nothing last start on the turf but can consider on debut Poly placing. 10

Race 3

Selections; 3 LIM’S SHOWCASE – 4 ANONYMOUS – 1 RUAPEHU – 8 CACTUS JACK
Plenty of winning hopes in this race with most looking to have some hope. But given most are “due” and certainly win without surprising on recent form, LIM’S SHOWCASE is the only horses coming off a last start win and happy to think he can go on with the job. That win was in Class 4 but it was certainly good enough for this company with Amirul and his 2kg claim staying onboard. As mentioned most others can show up with ANONYMOUS in form and also trialling well while RUAPEHU very much appreciating the company and must go close. CATCH ME GREAT, RICH FORTUNE and CACTUS JACK (with Siggy Carr up) all in the winning mix.

1 RUAPEHU *** In very solid form and this race looks suitable to knock in another win with gate 1 a bonus. 3.00
2 CATCH ME GREAT *** Just fair last start but was progressing nicely prior and pay to follow. 10
3 LIM’S SHOWCASE *** Coming off a good Class 4 win and more than up to this company. 4.00
4 ANONYMOUS *** In very solid form and recent trial good enough to win this. 4.00
5 RICH FORTUNE *** Last start better than the result and wins a race like this without surprising. 6.00
6 REACH FOR THE SUN ** Form reads badly but will appreciate being back on the Poly and will be value. 33
7 TOU SHOU BRIGHT ** Solid without being a threat of late so exotics look best. 33
8 CACTUS JACK *** Not a mile away last start and look well placed to show his best with no weight. 12
9 STAR GENERAL ** Another who appreciates the Poly and could sneak a place at odds. 33
10 TASSAJARA * Solid of late but in much easier company and better suited there. 33

Race 4

Selections; 1 EL CAMINO – 2 MEGUSTO – 10 THE DODGER – 13 FLYING WINNER
A tricky KSD 1400m for punters with a few of the fancies coming off poor efforts including our top pick, EL CAMINO. The 4YO was resuming with support on that occasion and never looked comfortable but he should have benefitted from the outing and gets his chance here. Two others that improve on poor last start efforts are THE DODGER and HORSE WARRIOR who both win this without surprising on best form. Plenty of others that can win including MEGUSTO who appreciates two good runs this campaign and also looks very well-placed stepping up to 1400m with HOT GOLD, FLYING WINNER and MIGHTY GLORY all too honest to leave out.

1 EL CAMINO *** Appreciates first-up run where he had excuses and can win. 8.00
2 MEGUSTO *** In solid form at two runs this campaign and should very much appreciate the step up to 1400m. 4.00
3 START ME UP * Disappointed last start over 1400m and have to take on trust. 20
4 STAR STRIKE ** Not a mile away last start this trip and can include in exotic calculations at odds. 33
5 HORSE WARRIOR *** Almost a year since last win but in solid form and will figure in the mix. 8.00
6 KAI POWER * Not a mile away two starts back in similar affair but should need longer. 33
7 FUJIN BRIGHT * Company suits but another that should need longer. 50
8 HOT GOLD *** In solid form and each-way all the way. 8.00
9 MIGHTY GLORY *** Yet to win on the turf but in form and gets blinkers so must be respected. 6.00
10 THE DODGER *** All sorts of excuses last start so ignore and take on good run prior over this trip. 6.00
11 PERFECT CHALLENGER * Recent form poor but can work into races late if on song with blinkers to winkers. 33
12 HAPPY SAGA ** Like to see in Class 5 but recent win was this trip and pay to keep safe. 20
13 FLYING WINNER *** Very honest and in this a very long way. 8.00

Race 5

Selections; 7 SUPER LINE – 5 CONILAD – 2 BATTLE HORSE – 1 SUPER SIX
A cracking Poly sprint and while the field has depth, most eyes will be on two very progressive lightly raced horses in CONILAD and SUPER LINE. Both have Poly wins to their names and both look like going through the grades. SUPER LINE in particular looks a potential top-liner and did smash the field at his only Poly win. His recent trial suggests he will appreciate being back on the all-weather track and he could go off a short-priced favourite. CONILAD has two wins and two places from just four career starts and gives the impression he is more than up to this company. The pair will have to be at their best though with two last start winners in SUPER SIX and WAIPAKIHI right in the mix while BATTLE HORSE, BOARD WALK and CAIRO all win without surprising.

1 SUPER SIX *** In a terrific vein of form and pay to keep following. 6.00
2 BATTLE HORSE *** Form looks patchy but race is suitable and recent trial was very good and can win with winkers added. 12
3 TURQUOISE KING * Just fair over the mile last start and query on this surface. 33
4 BOARD WALK *** Kept them honest late last start and expect much the same again. 12
5 CONILAD *** Lightly raced 5YO who wins a race like this without surprising. 4.00
6 CAIRO *** Resuming from wide gate but has won first-up previously so pay to keep safe. 9.00
7 SUPER LINE *** Nice type who bolted in at only Poly run and can win this. 3.00
8 ELISE * Better option on the turf. 50
9 WAIPAKIHI *** Having first Poly run but in winning form and too honest not to follow. 8.00
10 HOST THE NATION ** Will be running on late and often value. 33
11 LIM’S GREETING ** Form better than it reads and another to keep safe at each-way odds. 20
12 FLYING SHADOW * Reassess in easier company. 50

Race 6

Selections; 9 DREAM COMES TRUE – 2 ECLAIR FLASH – 3 PRESENTING WIN – 10 AWATERE
Another great race – this time a Novice turf event over 1400m. And at the race conditions it always pays to see who gets in best at the weights and once again it is the 3YO’s down on just 50kg that get in the best. In particular the two last start winners in DREAM COMES TRUE and AWATERE – both from the Mark Walker stable – that appeal. The pair both won well enough to think they are horses with a future and DREAM COMES TRUE does look well suited to the step up to 1400m so can win this. Plenty of others in top form that win without surprising including ECLAIR FLASH who beat subsequent Juvenile Championship winner MYSTIC MASTER on debut and PRESENTING WIN who also comes off a very good win.

1 KELTIC KARMA ** Turned some good form into his maiden win last start and will be in the mix. 6.00
2 ECLAIR FLASH *** Beat subsequent Group winner Mystic Master on debut and pay to follow that form with nice recent trial a pointer. 4.00
3 PRESENTING WIN *** Followed up good debut with a very strong win and pay to keep following. 4.00
4 MR CROWE ** Won maiden this trip and should work into exotic calculations late. 33
5 D’BUFFALO MAN ** Gets blinkers back on after solid first-up run and should be handy throughout. 12
6 SILK ROUTE * Reassess in easier company. 200
7 MAXIMUS ** Honest and 1400m looks a good move. 12
8 DIVERGENT ** Singapore debut was solid but wide gate makes this tough. 20
9 DREAM COMES TRUE *** Ran on well to win last start and could be hard to hold out with lightweight over 1400m. 4.00
10 AWATERE *** Steady improvement to win last start and another that can win with no weight. 8.00

Race 7

Selections; 1 GREAT SUN – 6 CHAMPAGNE REIN – 3 NINETYSEVEN GOLD – 4 HIMALAYA DRAGON
CHAMPAGNE REIN has won in New Zealand and Australia (twice) and gets this chance in this Poly sprint to get another winning stamp in his passport. The 5YO backed up a solid local debut with a good placing and from gate 4 he gets his chance with Nunes staying onboard. In saying that, he will have to improve to beat GREAT SUN. The 5YO hasn’t won since this time last year but he has been in fine form this campaign in good company and with any luck from the wide alley, he may be too good for this lot. The field has depth with NINETYSEVEN GOLD and HIMILAYA DRAGON both in very good form while MR LUCK also appeals given he comes into this after back-to-back wins.

1 GREAT SUN *** A year since last win but racing well and gets his chance in suitable company. 4.00
2 GOT LUCK ** Recent form hopeless but recent trial good and could improve at long odds. 33
3 NINETYSEVEN GOLD *** In excellent form and will make his presence felt at the business end. 4.00
4 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Form this campaign good enough to make use of the ace and win. 9.00
5 MR LUCK *** Overcame wide gate to make it back-to-back wins last start and pay to keep following. 5.00
6 CHAMPAGNE REIN *** Improved on Singapore debut to just miss last start and wins races like this sooner than later. 5.00
7 EATONS GOLD ** Wide gate a concern but can give a sight. 33
8 HONEST TRUTH * Blinkers off after a tough run of form and easier to ignore. 50
9 JOBODWANA ** Ran on well to win last start and will keep them honest late again. 10
10 NORTHERN BOSS ** Pulled up lame after placing at long odds last start but pay to keep following. 20
11 HONGCHEN * Reassess over longer. 50
12 THE MIGHTY THOR * In form but in easier company and might be looking or Class 5 with blinkers off for this. 33
13 TOP NOTE * Needs easier. 50

Race 8

Selections; 4 LINCOLN’S EXCUSE – 2 SUN MIRAGE – 9 ROYAL EASTER – 1 MIGHTY KENNY
A solid KSD 1400m event and Siggy Carr might continue a good day in the saddle with LINCOLN’S EXCUSE. The 6YO has been in very solid form in similar affairs to this and he can turn that form into what would be his second career win. SUN MIRAGE showed them a clean pair of heels last start and no reason to think he can’t do it again. True, the win was in maiden company but the effort good enough to follow with 1400m no problem. Of the others, ROYAL EASTER had excuses last start (his saddle slipped) and he must go close on his solid form prior while MIGHTY KENNY picks himself on form given he has two wins over this trip. Q NINE MAXIM the other that wins without surprising.

1 MIGHTY KENNY *** In form and has won twice this trip so should figure in the finish. 3.00
2 SUN MIRAGE *** Broke maiden status last start after a solid run of form and will be hard to pass late. 5.00
3 VALUE OF JUSTICE ** Excuses last start and will improve with each run but may need longer. 33
4 LINCOLN’S EXCUSE *** Just missed last start in similar affair and wins without surprising. 6.00
5 NATION THEATRE ** Form reads terribly but appreciates first up run and the easier company so look for improvement at long odds. 50
6 IMPERIAL FIGHTER * Reassess over longer. 100
7 IRISH CONNECTION * Gets winkers but needs to show much more. 100
8 KISS ME ** Not a mile away last start and should appreciate the turf. 20
9 ROYAL EASTER *** Excuses last start (saddle) and can win on good form prior. 8.00
10 EXQUISITELY SWEET * Looks better suited on the Poly. 100
11 Q NINE MAXIM *** Mixing his form but has looked ready to win a race like this. 20
12 REAL HERO * Jockey reported issues last start but probably looking for Class 5. 33
13 INVINCIBLE MAN * No. 200
14 MAREA NEGRO ** Racing in very solid form but long times between wins and may need Class 5. 12

Race 9

Selections; 6 WHOSE ELSE’S – 8 LIKA TIGER – 9 BANDIDO – 3 KINGS RYKER
As usual a tough race for punters to finish the night but expect WHOSE ELSE’S to get most support and hopefully can send favourite punters home happy. Yes, there will be some punters a tad gun-shy given he has been beaten with heavy support of late but it’s hard to fault his efforts and will win another one soon. Those willing to risk him will be hoping LIKA TIGER can lead throughout. The 6YO will go forward from the nice gate and will look the winner for a long way in the straight. The race has depth though with BANDIDO, SONG TO THE MOON, KINGS RYKER, MARTIN and last start winner, GURU-GURU, all winning shows.

1 CITY OF KIRKWALL ** Will improve with each run this campaign but should need longer again to win. 33
2 MARTIN *** Well beaten when placing last start but showed enough to think that he can win one in Class 4. 12
3 KINGS RYKER *** Only fair last start but previous form had him winning soon. 8.00
4 TALES OF SUMMER ** Yet to place in Singapore but usually thereabouts and can include in exotics with blinkers and tongue-tie off. 33
5 GURU-GURU *** Won in KSD Company when blinkers went on last start and happy to follow. 6.00
6 WHOSE ELSE’S *** Has done everything bar win with heavy support at his last few and gets his chance here. 3.00
7 SONG TO THE MOON *** Excuses last start for poor run and happy to give another chance with blinkers to winkers. 12
8 LIKA TIGER *** Super honest and the one the others will have to pass late to win. 6.00
9 BANDIDO *** In form and will win races like this so pay to follow. 12
10 APOLLO * Form reads badly but recent trial with blinkers OK so may improve. 33
11 HIGHER SOUL ** Always an each-way show in races like this. 12
12 AMISTAD ** Hard to fault form and gets the ace but recent win was in Class 5 and may be heading there. 12
