Captain Lannister’s Sister Will Be In Demand

Riverton's Lot 154 – A Filly By Captain Of All

The BSA August 2yo Sale will be held at the TBA Sales Complex in Johannesburg on 22 and 23 August.

Riverton’s Lot 154 is a filly by Captain Of All

Her brother, classy galloper Captain Lannister showed great promise on the racetrack.

In a brief career, the gelding won or placed in eight of 11 starts and earned more than R370 000 in stakes.

Captain Lannister, who won from 1000m to 1450m, put up arguably the best performance of his career when running third, beaten just over a length in the 2022 Gr1 World Sports Betting SA Classic.

In finishing third in the SA Classic, Captain Lannister accounted for a number of top-class performers notably graded stakes winners Aragosta and William Robertson as well as the very classy galloper Zeus.

Also fourth in the Gr1 Gold Medallion at two, Captain Lannister put up another smart effort  when running Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes winner Sentbydestiny to under two lengths when runner up over 1450 metres.

Captain Lannister, a son of the Riverton Stud bred champion and triple Gr1 winner Captain Of All, is one of three winners produced by the three time winning Western Winter mare Hidden Nest.

The latter, a three-parts sister to the Western Winter sired Listed Racing Association Stakes/Listed East Cape Guineas winner Autumn Glory, also ranks the dam of seven time winner Two Guns (by Oracy) as well as the winner Blazing Rebel (by Rebel King).

The blue- blooded Hidden Nest was produced by Gr2 Gold Circle Oaks third- and three-time winning Deneuve, herself a daughter of champion sire Badger Land and dual Gr1 winner Please Be True.

Please Be True was a top-class racemare, whose seven career wins included triumphs in both the Gr1 Germiston November Handicap and Gosforth Park Fillies & Mares Challenge, with Please Be True a half-sister to the dam of Gr1 Cape Flying Championship winner Best Of The Best.

Further back, this is also the family of such stars as July winning champion Royal Chalice, the Gr1 winning full siblings Nania and Red Ray (both sired by Western Winter), and Guineas winning sire Bushmanland to name a few.

Riverton Stud, as Agent, will be offering a full-sister (Lot 154), in the form of Captain’s Pride, to Captain Lannister at this year’s August Two Year Old Sale.

Captain’s Pride is bred on a similar cross to all of dual Equus Champion, and five time Gr1 winner, Carry On Alice, Gr1 Forus Cape Guineas winner Tap O’ Noth and promising young sire Erik The Red, with all three horses sired by Captain Al (sire of Captain Of All) out of daughters of Western Winter.

At the time of writing, Western Winter mares had produced more than 60 stakes winners with this tally including such Gr1 winners as Past Master (Equus Champion), Good Traveller (Equus Champion), and Make It Snappy (Gr1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas/G1 Cartier Paddock Stakes).
