A cracking bunch of 21 high-class 3yo fillies have been nominated for the Gr1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas. The first Gr1 of the Cape Summer Season will be run at Kenilworth on Saturday 7 December.

The entries include last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly Along Came Polly (Judpot), Gr1 Golden Slipper vixen For The Lads (Trippi), and recent Gr2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship winner In The Fast Lane (Jet Master). Leading sire Captain Al is represented by five entries – or in other words, nearly 25% of the entries are daughters of Captain Al! The champion stallion’s daughters entered for the prestigious classic are Alascan Maiden, Copiapo, Highly Decorated, Pure Power and Wheredowego.

Captain Al fillies have already made their mark in this race – with Captain’s Lover having won in 2007, and two other daughters, Trinity House and Emerald Cove, having finished second and third in 2011 and 2010 respectively. The final field will be announced at a private function on Thursday 28 November 2013.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
