Delta Skelter!

Corrie Lensley's first Cape runners

The R200 000 Capetown Noir Gr3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery opens the Derby day Pick 6 on Saturday and sees the return of well-bred recent debut winner Delta Queen.

The daughter of Var was a facile winner on her debut a fortnight ago and now steps up 100m in an early return test. Trainer Dean Kannemeyer rates her and its not his style to push 2yo’s – so it may be worth sitting up and taking note. She is possessed of plenty of speed and could run them off their feet.

The biggest threat looks to be Snaith’s Favorita, a recent 900m maiden winner who looks sure to enjoy the extra 300m. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight has run on like a filly that will appreciate the extra and gives her owner-breeders Varsfontein the chance of juvenile feature double.

Piet Botha’s smart debut winner Captain’s Flo ran a shocker in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes when 23 lengths behind Erik The Red. She had a host of excuses there, which included being fractious in the stalls and jumped slow, losing two lengths. Donovan Dillon reported that he felt something amiss with her and did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. She was also found to have a bloody nose afterwards, too. She may be worth another chance.

Musical Glitch has run three races for three places and looks to have a place chance here.

Candice Bass-Robinson has won two of the last three runnings of this 2yo feature but her representative Fiftyshadesdarker looks held by Favorita.

Richard Fourie partners Stuck On You, who finished best of the fairer sex when third and 1,65 lengths behind Erik The Red in the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes. She has run on well at her last two starts and should enjoy the 1200m.

Glen Kotzen’s second runner Mifid Two shed her maiden in mixed company at her second start and looks likely to appreciate the extra 200m on Saturday

Corrie Lensley – saddles his first Cape runners

First of the Lensley duo, Miss Generosity was a runaway winner on her Flamingo Park sand debut in January and now has her first run on the turf. She is difficult to assess.

Third of the Snaith trio, Trippin The Stars is a twice raced maiden and looks held on what she has shown to date.

Watch the betting on the two first-timers.

A R75 000 Cape Premier Yearling Sale buy, Beach Bound is a daughter of Coup De Grace and Vaughan Marshall is known to get them ready early.

Second of the Lensley duo, Stepitupbaby is a R65 000 Cape Ready To Run Sale graduate and runs in the nationally familiar Suzette Viljoen silks. She is bred to go fast and Gavin Lerena takes the ride.

Delta Queen could give the sponsors a well deserved winner and she is the choice to maintain her unbeaten record.
