Cape Yearling Sale – Sunday At 12h30

A lot-by-lot snapshot

The exciting announcement of a massive stakes boost for the Hollywoodbets Durban July and the SA Champions Season from 1 March will be some positive news in a difficult time for South Africa racing on the eve of one of our best value for money auctions.

To be held at Kenilworth on Sunday, the Cape Yearling Sale has unleashed a string of top prospects over the years, with the list of high-class thoroughbreds offered for sale at this auction a lengthy one indeed.

The Gr1 Daily News 2000 winning Surcharge, who would go on to win the G1 Kennedy Cantala, in Australia under the name of Yulong Prince, heads the list of recent star thoroughbreds who have been offered for sale at previous renewals of the Cape Sale.

Yulong Stud now stands one of the best horses of his generation, who won six of 11 starts here before relocating to Australia in 2019.

Yulong Prince’s victory in the Gr1 Kennedy Cantala Stakes during Melbourne Cup Week was very special as the first Australian Group 1 success for Yulong owner Yuesheng Zhang.

Surcharge wins the Daily News

Other notable horses sold off recent editions of the Cape Yearling Sale include Drakenstein Stud’s promising young sire Gold Standard – represented by five lots on Sunday – and fellow graded stakes winners Doosra, Elusive Heart, Final Judgement, Green Pepper, Hack Green and Princess Peach.
