Whether it’s the lure of the peri-peri prawns or the option of a crack at the projected Pick 6 pool of R2,2 million, a reasonable crowd is anticipated at Kenilworth today, despite the early morning drizzle, where the curtain comes down on an eventful Cape Summer Of Champion Season.
The big season culminated on Sun Met day when Justin Snaith realised a long-held family ambition by winning Cape Town’s premier race, the Sun Met, and wrote his own racing history in the process. The victory by Australian-bred Oh Susanna was a breathtaking showing and a rare achievement by a 3yo filly – the last being Chair Lady in 1902.
Snaith has been quoted as suggesting that Saturday 27 January 2018 must go down as the best day of his racing career, as he also won two other Gr1’s on the card in the Cape Flying Championship with Sergeant Hardy and the Majorca Stakes with Snowdance.
The annual Cape Town Prawn Festival promises fresh seafood and live entertainment – and some top quality racing into the bargain.
DJ Mark Grange and the legendary Cape Minstrels will provide the entertainment on the lawns, with Kenilworth Racing going the extra mile with child minders, and even a tattoo artist. There is also a chance to win R30 000 in household appliances.
Gates open at 11h00, with the first race off at 13h20. The last race is at 18h00 and the event will run until 19h00.
