Cape Racing has advised that after gallops were held at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday morning at 08h00, the underfoot conditions were deemed unsuitable for racing.
Wednesday’s meeting has therefore been postponed to Friday, August 23.
Unfortunately, heavy rains have been forecast for Saturday.
With this in mind and the newly scheduled meeting for this Friday, we have made the decision to postpone the meeting scheduled for Saturday, August 24th, to next week Wednesday, August 28th.
This meeting will also change venue and be run at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.
Has Cape Racing heard about a term ” heavy going”? That’s when the ground is soft, wet, heavy. Racing can take place on heavy going, believe it or not!!
Wow,,probably 5mm fell during the night,no rain since after o’clock, and they called this the winter course.
The country course, Shawn
Hollywoodbets Kenilworth has the winter and summer course
Some of the jockeys and trainers must be really struggling the last few months – it’s probably similar to lockdown time for them.
Hope the authorities are helping out.
It’s the jockeys who are protesting all the time, so no help for them! Trainers though need support, they have overheads, staff, feed, etc. Jockeys couldn’t care less!
Is Jockey and horse safety not a top priority. If something bad happens to a Jockey that has a bad fall in those conditions who will take care of them and their families. Horse racing will continue and that jockey will be long forgotten the very next day.
Is Cape Racing, in the interest of transparency, prepared to publish records of its decisions regarding race meeting cancellations? What criteria are used to objectively determine that the track is unfit for racing? Who are the individuals responsible for making these decisions?
Pity about the Cape racing but at least we have a Turffontein meeting to look forward to on Saturday. Nothing more boring than a standalone meeting that gets rained out and the local rugby on TV nothing to shout home about.
Would it not be in the interest of racing to look at a polytrack for CPT,Even if its just a 1200m straight.Only those in the know will be able to tell us how much revenue was lost due to bad weather/surface conditions.
Frankie Zackey…5 months of racing is sufficient for the Cape… Kick-off 1 Nov end 31 Mar
