Cape Racing Cancel Monday Meeting

Additional racemeeting slot announced

Cape Racing has announced the cancellation of its race meeting scheduled for Monday 20 March 2023.

The decision was made amid safety and logistical concerns due to the proposed national shutdown and the decision of the union representing a large percentage of Cape Racing’s employees to participate in the shutdown.

Justin Vermaak, Cape Racing’s Racing Operations & Bloodstock executive added: “The decision to cancel the race meeting was a difficult one and was not taken lightly. However, the safety of our staff, jockeys, owners, trainers, spectators, and horses, is what matters most. Given the sizable staff shortages and logistical challenges on the roads, we felt as if we were left with little choice.  We understand that this news will be disappointing for racing fans, but we must prioritize the safety and well-being of our stakeholders.”

In lieu of the cancelled race meeting, Cape Racing has announced that an additional meeting will be scheduled for Saturday 25 March 2023 at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.

This meeting will take place in conjunction with Turffontein, providing racing fans with an exciting day of top-class horse racing.

New entry details:

Monday 20 March (AM): Nominations, 25 March meeting.

Monday 20 March (PM): Acceptances, 25 March meeting.

Wednesday 22 March: Acceptances, 28 March meeting.

Cape Racing will provide further information regarding the 25 March race meeting in due course.

  • Media release by Cape Racing on Friday 17 March 2023.
