Dual Horse Of The Year awards for Do It Again

The Cape Racing & Breeding Awards for the 2018/19 season was held at a glittering function at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands on Thursday evening.

The dual Vodacom Durban July winner Do It Again was a dominant force, not unexpectedly picking up a host of awards on the evening.

The Snaith Racing team were acknowledged with an Exceptional Achievement Award for a season that saw the Cape-based outfit relinquish their SA Champion title to Sean Tarry, but maintain a consistency at the highest level through the Cape Summer Season and right throughout the SA Champions Season.

Dean Kannemeyer’s smart Vercingetorix colt African Warrior was a popular choice in the Juvenile Male Of The Year category.

A multiple stakes winner, the R100 000 KZN Yearling Sale graduate has proven a boon for the newly formed DK Racing Syndicate.

One syndicate member, Martin Holland, made the trip from the UK to attend the awards with his fellow owners  – a reflection of the passion that exists in some quarters.

The Drakenstein owned and bred Kingsbarns filly Gabor cantered off with the Champion 2yo Filly trophy in the Cape Breeders Awards section after her scintillating Gr1 Thekwini Stakes success on Super Saturday.

Veteran broadcaster and racecaller Rouvaun Smit delivered a polished performance as MC, with Cape Breeders Club Chairman James Armitage picking up an award on the evening – and also delivering an interesting speech to the capacity audience.

Well done to the organisers on a smoothly executed event.
