Switch To Fairview – W-Cape Racing At Crossroads?

Dire consequences for local racing

Durbanville - no interest

Durbanville – no interest

In an unprecedented move, Phumelela have cancelled the Durbanville racemeeting scheduled for Tuesday 1 March and replaced it with a Fairview polytrack meet.

The action has apparently been forced on the operator by an ongoing apathy amongst Cape trainers to support local meetings.

It was agreed some time ago between trainer representatives and the racing operator that the minimum runner requirement for local yards would be five runners per box rented per annum.

Cape trainers were requested to attend a meeting this afternoon at 16h00 at Kenilworth Racecourse with Phumelela CEO Rian Du Plessis.

No press release has been forthcoming from official sources.
