2016 Cape Racing and Breeding Awards

The Cape Racing  &Breeding Awards evening at the Lanzerac in Stellenbosch was a glittering affair.

Hosted jointly by the Racing Association and the Cape Breeders Club, it honored the stars and outstanding performers in the respective sectors.

Inara wins the Garden Province Stakes

INARA, the Trippi filly Inara was crowned Horse Of The Year in the RACING section.

This outstanding galloper is the first SA-bred filly to win a Gr1 race in each of the three racing provinces – and she did this in one season –  and then also the only filly ever to win Gr1 races in each of the three provinces in one season!

SMART CALL, the 2016 J&B Met winner and three time Gr1 winner was crowned Horse Of The Year in the BREEDERS section. This daughter of Ideal World is currently based in Newmarket, UK and is on an overseas campaign with a Breeders Cup outing her target.

Recently retired legend MIKE BASS was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, while Maine Chance retired Stud Manager JOHN SLADE was the recipient of a Special Service Industry Award.
