Cape Premier Sale

Simply The Best

If the median price is takes as the benchmark, then the Cape Premier Sale is the most successful sale ever held in South Africa.

The highest median achieved prior to 2011 was at the 2008 National Sale, where colts had a R275k median, fillies R250k, and the overall median R260k. This time, at the Cape Convention centre, both sexes hit the R300k mark, as did the overall median.

Interestingly, when taken by average price (which tends to be skewed by extreme prices, both high and low), there wasn’t much between the 2011 Cape sale and Nationals 2008:  colts were higher at R435k vs. R424, fillies lower at R365k vs R369k, and overall the Cape’s R410k beat Nationals’ R398k.

Jay Peg's half brother

Highest price at the new Cape Sale was for a pair of Jet Masters, who went for R2.5m each. The half brother to champion Jay Peg, consigned by Klawervlei, went to Ebrahim Khan. Singapore visitor Pat Shaw got a half brother to Gr1 performers Alexandra Rose and Pavlovich from Varsfontein. Shaw bought three of the five top priced lots.

In all, eighteen yearlings broke the Million mark (see list), five of them fillies.

Given the what buyers, sellers and others had to say about the venue, there can be little doubt that much was achieved with this first Premier sale in the Cape. Much to look forward to in 2012.
