A daughter of Drakenstein Stud’s champion sire Trippi proved the star attraction at Tuesday’s Cape Mare & Weanling Sale, which took place at the Mistico Equestrian Centre just outside of Durbanville.
The stakes winning Agra was knocked down to Form Bloodstock’s Jehan Malherbe for R300 000 to top the one day sale. Last year’s top-seller was sold or R700 000.

Consigned by Klipdrif Stud (As Agent), Agra won five races during her career which saw the well bred Trippi daughter capture both the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes and Milkwood Stakes and finish second in the Gr3 Southern Cross Stakes.
She is already dam of the winner Mumtaz, and sold in foal to red-hot sire and former triple Equus Champion What A Winter.
Agra, who is out of the four time winning National Assembly mare The Taj, is bred on the same Trippi/National Assembly cross as graded stakes winners Franny and Live Life.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, and sire of more than 70 stakes winners to date, Trippi continues to make waves as a broodmare sire.
The sale reflected the tough conditions prevailing with 112 of the 174 lots sold for an aggregate of R3 036 000. This is 50 % down on 2018 – although comparisons of the turnover is largely futile as 94 lots more were catalogued last year.
The sale average was R27 107 (down 29% on 2018) with the median of R10 000 down 16% on last year.
