Canford Cliffs Son Crosses The Channel

Ridgemont Highlands team have eye on Deauville

Sunday sees Deauville round off its summer season with the Gr2 Grand Prix de Deauville-Lucien Barriere, which is set to host Sylvester Kirk in his search for an overdue big win for Canford Cliffs son Salouen.

Canford Cliffs in action

The four-year-old has only two ordinary victories as a juvenile to his name, but he has been a regular Pattern-race performer throughout his career.

He has been placed at the top level several times, coming closest to glory when only beaten a head by Cracksman in the Gr1 Coronation Cup at Epsom in June.

Salouen’s five time Gr1 winning sire Canford Cliffs has already achieved a solid strike rate in South Africa. His four runners to race in this country have all won at least once, and include Derby winner Dorset Noble.

Canford Cliffs, already a sire of group winners, was an exceptional racehorse who won seven of 11 outings (he was never unplaced) and earned just under £1 000 000 in prize money.

He reeled off five Gr1 wins on the bounce headed by the 2010 Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas.

He will cover his first local mares next month at Ridgemont Highlands and any enquiries may be directed to Amanda Carey on [email protected] or Mike Sharkey on Tel 023 626 2331/2.
